2008-2009 Season
Celebrating Family

WELL
by Lisa Kron
August 7 - 24, 2008
Cabot Theatre

Directed by Laura Gordon
Featuring Marti Gobel, Angela Iannone, Bo Johnson,
Travis A. Knight and Ruth Schudson

Lisa, a hip and highly-respected performance artist, normally appears solo. But for her latest project, she’s daring to go out on a limb. She’s rented the Cabot Theatre and hired a diverse ensemble of actors for a “multi-character theatrical exploration.” Throwing the whole event into chaos is her all-too-present and perpetually-ailing mother. This riotously funny play offers many insights into what it means to be healthy, both as an individual and as a community.

“Wonderful and delirious…has a warmth and accessibility that make you want to recommend it to everyone.”  ~New York Times

RABBIT HOLE
by David Lindsay-Abaire
October 16 - November 2, 2008
Cabot Theatre

Directed by C. Michael Wright
Featuring Katheryn Bilbo, Laurie Birmingham, David M. Bohn, Steven M. Koehler and Jacque Troy

Becca Corbett tries to cope with a life-shattering accident that has turned her whole world upside down. Her husband, Howie, retreats to group therapy, but her mother, Nat, and her sister, Izzy, want to confront things head-on. Using equal doses of humor and candor, RABBIT HOLE is a refreshingly honest look at domestic tragedy and the healing power of family. Pulitzer Prize-winning Play of 2007.

“A transcendent and deeply affecting new play, which shifts perfectly from hilarity to grief.” ~ Entertainment Weekly

THE DALY NEWS
Story, Book and Lyrics by Jonathan Gillard Daly
Music by Gregg Coffin, Larry Delinger and Jonathan Gillard Daly
November 13 - December 14, 2008
Studio Theatre

Directed by C. Michael Wright
Featuring Richard Carsey, Jonathan Gillard Daly and
Jack Forbes Wilson

Jon takes us back to 1940s Milwaukee. To keep his four sons connected to the family, while World War II forced them apart, his grandfather, Martin, created a newsletter he called “The Daly News.” This touching musical memoir about love and the distance between fathers and sons received a very popular public reading in 2007 as the inaugural presentation in our new Montgomery Davis Play Development Series.

THE SUM OF US
By David Stevens
February 19 - March 15, 2009
Studio Theatre

Directed by Ray Jivoff
Featuring Matt Koester, Brian Mani, Mic Matarrese and
Tami Workentin

Widower Harry Mitchell lives in harmony with his son, Jeff, a young plumber who is also unattached. Both men are pursuing romance in the difficult world of dating, but Jeff’s dates just happen to be with other men. A comedy from “Down Under,” THE SUM OF US reminds us that the game of love is the same for everyone – frustrating, yet exhilarating – no matter what team you’re on.

“A father-son play with a big heart – and plenty of laughs.” ~Variety

BROOKLYN BOY
By Donald Margulies
April 16 - May 3, 2009
Cabot Theatre

Directed by C. Michael Wright
Featuring Darrel Cherney, James DeVita, Tom Klubertanz, Michelle Lopez-Rios, Rebecca Rose Phillips, Robert Spencer and Julie Swenson

Eric Weiss seems to have it all. With a very successful novel and a screenplay in the works, he’s busy making the rounds on the talk show and book signing circuit. But Eric is also experiencing a midlife crisis as he struggles with his aging father, his failing marriage, the LA scene and, ultimately, his lost roots. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies offers us a humorous but complex glimpse of a lonely life in the fast lane.

“Full of aching ruefulness that underlies the comedy…written with precision and humor.” ~Los Angeles Times
