Tom Kempinski British actor and playwright, Tom Kempinski was born in London in 1938. He has written not only for the stage but also for film and television. His recent works for the theatre include WHEN THE PAST IS STILL TO COME, SEX PLEASE – WE’RE ITALIAN, SELF-INFLICTED WOUNDS and SEPARATION which he later adapted for television and was broadcast on PBS. His greatest success was DUET FOR ONE which opened at the Duke of York's Theatre in London in 1980 starring Frances de la Tour and David de Keyser. It received the London Critics Award for Best Play. The following year it opened on Broadway with Anne Bancroft and Max Von Sydow. Kempinski wrote the screenplay for the 1986 film that starred Julie Andrews, Max Von Sydow, Alan Bates, Rupert Everett and Liam Neeson. The current London revival of DUET FOR ONE opened on January 29, 2009 at The National Theatre with Juliet Stevenson and Henry Goodman.
